You have to start somewhere.

First a quick blurb about me. My name is Rich Horton, hence richhorton.com. I am forty-three years old. Throughout my life I have been in bands, published a magazine, started a record label, and a few other businesses, and did a variety of other exciting projects. I live in Northeast Minneapolis with my wife and two kids and have worked a day job for most of my adult years.

As I get older, I seem to become more fearful about my purpose and about life in general. I fear my ability to take risks has been severely diminished and I have gone from fearing nothing to fearing what lies ahead.

Last January, I spent four days alone in a cabin collecting my thoughts and decided to begin planning the rest of my life.

What I have come to realize is while many of the projects and businesses I have started could be considered failures due to no profit, they were still accomplishments I can be proud of, and mistakes I can learn from. Over the years, I have also written a fair amount of songs, poetry, and short stories, and still have ideas for other big projects.

During my time at the cabin, I quickly noticed my lack of focus as I had multiple ideas and could not choose one primary focus. Through this, I had a revelation to shelve every idea but a few, and focused all of my attention on those few.

It was then that I had my next big idea: to make every one of my ideas, songs, writing, and accomplishments available on the internet.

I also desired to interview people I admired, to get their ideas and opinions on success, failure, accomplishments and advice. Blurbs of these interviews will be available on this website and also the “sister” sites, depending on the content. My hope was that through hearing their ideas, it might help me find my way, or help others find theirs.

Through all of this, I hope to discover what I am passionate about and want to pursue the rest of my life. I hope others will share in this journey and find encouragement in discovering their passions and purpose.

To warn you, some things I post are going to be crap, but I am going to put it all out there. Some of it was written twenty years ago. Regardless if people read these or not, I am giving you everything I have and I will know my creative spirit will be there for everyone to see, even if it’s after I die.

Enjoy this website, if you are so inclined. It would be great to have you come along.
